Wichita Falls is a northern Texas city with a population of approximately 104,553 people. The city, founded in 1872, is located in and serves as the county seat of Wichita Falls County. The original settlers of the area in which Wichita Falls is located were Native Americans of the Choctaw tribe. American settlers arrived in the 1860s and cattle ranches were established soon after. The city is named for the falls of the Wichita River that were destroyed by a flood in 1886.
